Action research is the participatory process of identifying an opportunity for change and, working together as a community of practice, conducting research, testing, applying, and reflecting on strategies for positive change.

As audio and video become increasingly utilized as a means of communicating in online courses, my colleague and I set out to examine how students and the instructor use audio and video as a means of communication in an asynchronous online course setting, and if the use of these tools was beneficial in developing feelings of social presence among participants.

In addition to learning about action research and its applications, my partner and I collaborated intensely. Our ability to communicate clearly, openly, and effectively bolstered our success with the project.
